MMI Progress Reports

  • December 2024

MMI is excited to announce that it is officially supporting 750 talibés spread between three Daaras, preventing them from forcibly begging on the streets.

Furthermore, MMI has raised enough funds to purchase a second tri-motor vehicle, whose revenue would fully fund the education, food, and shelter of the initial 250 Talibés, in a self-sustaining manner.

As part of our mission to educate and train for a brighter future, during his visit earlier this month, MMI’s Co-founder/ CEO Mo Jarju, utilizing his home improvement and handy skills led workshops on minor engineering and woodworking sessions with several Talibés. These workshops equip the kids with technical skills that will give them a chance at becoming highly qualified job candidates in the future, as well as self-sufficient members of the community. As such, MMI is also organizing apprenticeships for at least 20 Talibés, to learn crafts like tailoring, carpentry, electrical and mechanical engineering. This is only possible because MMI funds allow the children to have time after Qur’anic school to learn, rather than beg.

  • December 2023

MMI purchased its first investment towards its goal of self-sustainability — a tri-motor vehicle. Locals hire our car and driver to transport merchandise, the income from which is projected to be about $495 per month. That’s nearly half the monthly cost of supporting 250 Talibés, keeping them off the streets.

As always, we are so grateful to our donors for supporting this work, and helping end the practice of forced child street begging.
